Boba Story Bread Recipe

Boba, those delightful tapioca pearls, have conquered the world of beverages. But what if we told you their deliciousness extends far beyond the confines of a cup? This recipe brings the fun and chewy texture of boba into the heart of a comforting, homemade bread. Get ready to surprise your taste buds!

Ingredients:

This recipe yields one medium-sized loaf.

  • For the Bread Dough:

    • 500g Bread flour (strong bread flour recommended)
    • 300ml lukewarm water
    • 10g instant yeast (or 20g active dry yeast)
    • 50g granulated sugar
    • 10g salt
    • 50g unsalted butter, softened
  • For the Boba Filling:

    • 1 cup cooked boba pearls (follow package instructions, ensure they're fully cooked and cooled)
    • 2 tablespoons milk (any kind works)
    • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions:

1. Preparing the Dough:

  • In a large bowl, combine lukewarm water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy. This proves the yeast is active.
  • Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon or your hands until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, knead with the dough hook attachment for 6-8 minutes.
  • Gradually incorporate the softened butter, kneading until fully absorbed.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

2. Preparing the Boba Filling:

  • While the dough is rising, gently mix the cooked boba pearls, milk, and brown sugar (if using) in a small bowl. Set aside.

3. Assembling and Baking:

  • Punch down the risen dough to release the air.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle (approximately 12x18 inches).
  • Evenly spread the boba filling over the dough.
  • Tightly roll the dough into a log.
  • Place the log in a greased loaf pan (9x5 inches).
  • Cover the pan and let rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until almost doubled.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 200°F (93°C).
  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips and Variations:

  • For a sweeter bread, increase the sugar in the dough recipe.
  • You can add other fillings, such as chocolate chips or dried fruits, along with or instead of the boba.
  • If your boba pearls are too wet, gently pat them dry with a paper towel before mixing with the milk and sugar.

Enjoy your delicious and unique Boba Story Bread! It's a fantastic treat for any occasion, guaranteed to be a conversation starter.
