Let's be honest, Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3) is a behemoth. A sprawling, complex, and utterly captivating behemoth that easily swallows hundreds of hours. I’ve just finished my first playthrough, a meticulously planned, mod-free experience, and I'm already itching to dive back in. But why? Why replay a game that I’ve already conquered, painstakingly navigating its intricate web of choices and consequences?

The Allure of a Second (or Third, or Fourth…) Playthrough

The beauty of BG3 lies not just in its initial playthrough, but in its remarkable replayability. While the core narrative remains constant, the sheer volume of choices – from dialogue options and character builds to companion relationships and combat strategies – creates a virtually limitless number of unique experiences.

My first playthrough was a carefully crafted, lawful good Paladin campaign. It was a rewarding journey, filled with moments of triumph and moral quandaries. However, the allure of exploring the darker sides of the Forgotten Realms is too strong to resist.

Why No Mods?

I made a conscious decision to complete my first playthrough without any mods. This wasn't a puritanical stance against modification, but a deliberate choice to experience Larian Studios’ vision in its purest form. I wanted to fully appreciate the meticulously crafted world, the compelling characters, and the finely tuned gameplay before introducing any external elements.

This approach allowed for a more focused experience, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the story and savour each detail. While mods undoubtedly enhance the game, they can sometimes detract from the core experience, particularly on a first run.

What's Next?

My next playthrough will be drastically different. I'm envisioning a chaotic evil warlock, possibly a tiefling, leveraging the power of dark magic to navigate Faerûn. This will allow me to explore different dialogue options, make different allies (or enemies), and face completely different challenges. This time, perhaps I'll embrace the more morally questionable choices, reveling in the consequences – both good and bad.

The possibilities are endless. I can experiment with different character classes, races, and builds, each leading to a unique and engaging storyline. The decision to start again, mod-free, has already been a worthwhile journey of replayability and discovery.

The Verdict: Absolutely Worth Replaying

Whether you're a seasoned RPG player or a newcomer to the genre, Baldur's Gate 3 offers an unparalleled level of replayability. My mod-free experience solidified my conviction that this is not just a great game, but an exceptional and incredibly rewarding one, worthy of multiple playthroughs. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a pact to make with a devil…or maybe two.
